Personal profile

I’m an expatriate Scot currently living in the Midlands with my long-term girlfriend and partner, Heike Wischmann, where I’m studying for a PhD in philosophy at the University of Warwick. I took my undergraduate degree as a mature student at the University of York, after which I completed an M.Litt. in philosophy at the University of St. Andrews. Prior to that I worked as a computer programmer and a sound engineer.

My other interests include music (I enjoy playing guitar and keyboards, singing and recording songs in my home studio), computing (I used to write computer games before moving into productivity, multimedia and, more recently, web based software), and photography. I am a lover of ideas, wisdom and all things creative—although whether the current philosophical literature can properly be called creative is something of a moot point!

When I’m not busy philosophising or sat in front of my computer—an Apple iMac—I enjoy reading, walking, watching films, taking photos, and drinking large quantities of tea.
